Last night I had the privilege to organize a Snowflake ❄️ User Group in Snowflake’s Amsterdam Office. Snowflake’s Jason Teetz and Maria Nicoletti were there to support.
Optimizing Snowflake from a Cost & Performance Perspective
Johan van der Kooij shared his experiences regarding optimizing Snowflake from a cost & performance perspective. He shared practical hints, as well as example queries, that you can use to optimize your Snowflake environment.
Johan covered the following topics:
- The result cache
- Select *
- Query Hash values
- Warehouse clustering & spilling
- Scale and Run
- Cost per query and query tag
Johan’s session was a combination of slides and real life demo’s

Closing Remarks
The session was informative, fostering discussions, comments, and questions, alongside valuable networking opportunities. It was a great re-start, and I look forward to many more engaging sessions.
The goal I had when I wanted to lead the Dutch User Group chapter is simple. I want to build a community of like minded professionals. A community where you can find a podium to share your ideas and expertise. But also a community where you can come to learn. Learn new Snowflake-related things. next to that, also a place to meet (new) people.
I think, the ‘first’ session was a success. It was a mixture of exchangin knowledge and having conversations. Some of us were making new connections, others were meeting old friends. I am looking forward to the next one.
